Canterbury Cathedral
is one of England’s most popular
tourist attractions. The country’s first cathedral, it was founded by St.
Augustine shortly after he arrived from Rome in 587 AD. The present structure
was begun in 1071, and houses a Romanesque crypt, 12th century quire
and has fine examples of 13th century stained glass windows.
The city of Canterbury
has been welcoming visitors
for many centuries and today is a joy for tourists all year round. Its centre
is mostly pedestrianised, allowing visitors to stroll peacefully between its
medieval buildings.
